Chapter 133

Cranswick Greeno was in Vernon, a town on Kalamalka Lake, just north of Kelowna, at the mouth of the Okanagan Valley.
Two jobs in a row.
He was staying with HIV Aimee and her friend, at a cheap motel off Highway 97.
The job in Montreal had gone off without a hitch. But this one would be much more complicated. Dee Lee was not even certain his newest asset was homosexual.
Kurtis Missions and the asset, Rawle Powder, were nearby, heading south from Penticton, hitchhiking.
The update from Glenny had come shortly after dinnertime.
Cranswick consulted his laminated map, then jumped into the rental Neon, taking only the clothes on his back, and some Special K and GHB, in the glove box.
He left HIV Aimee and her friend to pack the bags. He wanted to get there first.
Aimee’s friend had a car too, so it would be okay.
Plus, if they split up, they doubled their chances of finding the targets.
Cranwick calculated that if he drove straight out, he would probably overtake them somewhere between Oliver and Osoyoos, the latter of which was a small town right on the U.S. border.
If he missed them there, they would probably head west toward Vancouver.
Kurtis had a criminal record and would not likely risk crossing the border.
Then again, maybe he had really good fake ID.
Finding him in Canada was hard enough. If he managed to get across the border, he might shake his tail and disappear for good.
Cranswick decided the best bet would be to drive straight through to Osoyoos, and wait for them there.
He gave the Neon a little gas, but still kept it at ten above the speed limit.
Just outside Kelowna, he pulled over at a gas station with a Timmy’s and used the family washroom. There was a plastic Koala change table that folded down from the wall. He rummaged through the garbage can underneath the table and found two or three recent diapers. He picked one with a big number two in it and stuffed it into the tight pocket of his jeans.
The smell was overpowering.
