Chapter 72

Amanda, the com clerk, called Sgt. Digby at her desk.
Amanda was fielding all radio transmissions related to the search effort. The frequencies were buzzing with activity. So many people were talking at once, she had to clear the air repeatedly, just to hear what Digby was saying.
“Sergeant. They got two 10-7’s at Sunken Lake.”
“Thanks. Okay. Over,” Digby said, even though she was talking on a phone, not a radio. She hung up and put on her jacket.
Digby passed by the com desk on her way through, and saw Amanda immersed in a flurry of calls, either on the phone or blaring over the radio.
It sounded like she was contacting Windsor RCMP: “….request road block 101 west somewhere after Bishopville, before Hants Border exit. Exit 8? Number 1. Avonport?... Suspicious activity, uhhhh… No description.”
Insp. Palipschuk was ordering road checks on all routes leading out of the Valley. Amanda would also no doubt be calling Queens RCMP to block Highway 12 at New Ross, and Kentville police to block the 101 west.
The missing persons file was quickly morphing in a full-blown double homicide investigation, with, what sounded like, a killer on the run.
